How does injection lipolysis work?

During the treatment a special solution is injected directly into the fat tissue. The amount of product used depends on the size of the fat deposit, the treatment area and the patient’s expectations of the final result. For comfort, the solution is mixed with an anaesthetic before injection, which makes the treatment practically painless and minimises discomfort.

The product is injected in a fan pattern with a special intralipotherapy needle. The whole treatment usually takes about 20 minutes, after which you can immediately return to normal daily activities.

What to expect afterwards, and the results

After the treatment it is normal to feel slight itching, burning and tenderness in the treated area. These are desired effects, showing that the solution is working. Over the next few days redness and swelling may also be visible, and the skin may be slightly sore and tender. This is a normal reaction of the body and it subsides on its own.

You can expect a real loss of 2–4 cm in circumference at the injection site after just one session. For optimal results a series of sessions is usually recommended. Most people achieve a satisfying reduction in fat tissue after 3–4 sessions, performed 3–4 weeks apart. With a small amount of fat tissue the effect can be achieved after just 1–2 sessions.

Areas that can be treated

Injection lipolysis can be used to remove fat deposits in various parts of the body, including:

  • Upper arms: around the triceps
  • Back folds: rolls of fat below the ribs
  • Abdomen
  • Hips
  • Saddlebags
  • The area under the buttocks
  • Inner thighs
  • Inner knees
  • Double chin / contouring the jawline
  • Male pseudogynecomastia
  • Lipomas
  • Buffalo hump

The best results are achieved in patients of normal weight or slightly overweight who have localised fat deposits. This applies especially to women with local fat in places such as the hips, saddlebags or inner knees that do not shrink despite exercise and diet.

Besides this treatment, do I have to do anything else to get the effect?

Of course. You should drink water, cut back on simple carbohydrates and stay active.
